What is structural identity?

Structural identity is the load-bearing architecture of a cognitive system — the structure that determines how an individual processes, filters, and responds to sustained obligation. It is not personality, behavior, or cognition in the psychological sense. It is the architecture underneath all three. Formalized by Don L. Gaconnet within Structural Identity Sciences.

How is structural identity different from personality?

Personality describes observable traits and behavioral patterns. Structural identity is the architecture that generates those traits. A personality assessment reads the surface. A structural identity assessment reads the load-bearing system underneath — including whether that surface accurately represents the system's actual condition.

What is the relationship between the Law of Identity and structural identity?

The Law of Identity (A = A) establishes that for anything to exist, it must be itself — and that this self-identity is generative. Structural identity is what happens when that generative system is placed under sustained obligation: the architecture either holds or it collapses. Structural Identity Sciences studies the conditions under which identity holds, fails, and can be stabilized.

Can structural identity be measured?

Yes. The Structural Identity Profiler measures structural identity through four biometric channels: EEG, heart-rate variability, facial affect analysis, and voice prosody. It reads the system's structural condition without relying on self-report.

What is structural identity in SwiftUI?

Structural identity in SwiftUI is a software concept describing how the framework identifies views by layout position rather than explicit identifiers. This is unrelated to structural identity in human systems science, which describes the load-bearing cognitive architecture of a living system under obligation.
